HANGING OUT WITH GOD (H.O.W.G.)  # 9

Emotions are not very reliable indicators.  They are dependent on many variables:  body chemistry, atmospheric conditions, light, gloom, weather, sleep, diet and nutrients, blood sugar, other people's energy, vibrations, and thinking habits.

Neither do we find facts to be reliable.  Fact:  If I work in the yard, I am dirty.  Fact:  If I then take a shower, I am clean.  Fact:  When I do not eat, I get  hungry.  Fact:  When I do eat, I am full.

Facts change according to the circumstances of the moment; are transitory. Therefore, facts are not eternal truths, as are the laws of Spirit. (They are ever reliable)

And that's a fact! ! ! !  Better yet - that's a Truth! ! !

Quote of the Day:

"A pessimist mourns the future." (Cybersalt)

The "Sages of the Ages" look upon the sadness of the memories of this day as being another day in human history.  They have looked upon the sorrows of the brutal battles between tribes and clans; the enslavement of captives; the rape of women.  They saw the in-humaneness of the Middle-Ages; witch-hunts and the Spanish Inquisition.  They've seen loss of hands, eyes, tongues, manhood, for simple transgressions.  They saw the atrocities of the Holocaust.  They saw the great tsunami and the resulting devastation, as once they had seen the dying of Pompeii.  They witnessed Hurricane Katrina and the suffering shock of the masses.   And, they saw the senseless attack of 9/11 - another blemish on the face of adolescent humanity; another tear in the collective soul of mankind.

Are these things worse than the sinking of Atlantis?  The tragic loss of the Library at Alexandria, the burning of Rome, the human torches of the early Christians, the great fire of London, the black plagues of Europe, the horrible results of Hiroshima?  No - it just happened to us (U.S.) in this day and this age.

What have we learned in this relatively little amount of time (cosmically speaking) as  physical anomalies on this small, beautiful planet?  Life goes on. The human spirit is the image/likeness of the Celestial Species from which we emanated.  As those seeking equal liberties in the 60's cried:  "We shall overcome!"  We can - or we can hang in there and just endure.

Cosmic evolution is an irresistible urge.  To paraphrase a comedian of the last century, Flip Wilson, "God made me do it."  (Not the devil)  (cosmic evolution, that is.)

Often heard excuses:  "It isn't my fault."  "I can't help it."  "I didn't do it."

Someday we are going to have to re-examine that mind-set.

9/11  The Book of Life has but one theme:  In the beginning, God;  in the middle, God;  at the present moment, God.  (There is never an ending, only an evolving awareness.)

I was watching Craig Ferguson on the Late Late Show last night.  I remarked to myself that he was somewhat subdued. (Not his usual style)  It was after midnight, but CBS was still commenting on 9/11.

Craig told a story of where he was on that fateful day.  He was working on a T.V. series and taping on a back-lot of a studio. There was an unnaturally strange agitation in the air; apprehensive.  Someone had located a huge American flag and jerry-rigged it to something or other.  It was a very, very hot day.  The flag was providing the only shade around and many people had collected under it's protecting shield.  The seasonal winds began to blow, the anchoring clips popped, and the crowd feared the flag would fall on them.

But when they looked, the flag was still there.  (Just like the "Star-Spangled Banner")

Still shielding; still protecting.

It can (and should) be that way; to protect and shield from the less-evolved ones who think that terror and violence (the law of the jungle) prove anything other than how degraded humans can be.  How misguided our stirred passions can express.

A little oil of God's love (the oil of gladness) is needed to be poured on/in the world.  It would be so beautiful to experience Isaiah's "Peaceable Kingdom." (Isa. 61:3; Isa.11:6-9)

I was thinking of all of the blessings of the world;  the riches, the beauty, the love, the sweetness, the "good things to satisfy our mouths," (mine is absorbing a piece of strawberry hard candy at the moment).  :o)  It continues:  a comfortable bed, and air conditioning.

Oh yes, the Lord giveth and _________________taketh away.  (Fill in the blanks:  Government, Taxes,  Big Business,  Housing, Utilities, Gasoline, Car Payments, etc.)

Or maybe we have become too accustomed to this "cushy" way of living.

One thing endures, and repeats:

THE LORD SENDETH - AND WE SPENDETH! ! !   :o)

Unity's World Day of Prayer - again.  I remember the first one they had.  I and 38 members of the church were at the Village for a retreat.  We all held hands around the fountain (the main complex).  There was a 24-hour Prayer Vigil in Silent Unity.  It was an impressive display of the goodness and intent of the many who were there.

We have had many 24-hour observances since then.  Many have come to give of their love and to share their blessings.  There is power in collective prayer; intensified intent.  Does it bless the world?  Certainly!  Does it bless the church?  Certainly!  Does it bless us?  Certainly!  Both collectively and individually.  It is an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace . . . awareness.

Perhaps it is just our way of saying, "Thank you God for all you have given us."

Note:  Thank you God for Selah (Donna) who is coordinating this heart-felt opportunity (just as she blesses us on Monday evenings at the beautiful silent, hushed, candlelight meditation.)

Someone's been "concerned about the doing of many things and hasn't chosen the good portion."  (Luke 10:41)  Hmmm.  Must have been me.  I don't think Master Teachers neglect their willing students. I must admit, I was awakened at 4:30 A.M. and thought that I wouldn't write just yet; then awakened at 6:30 A.M. - and still chose to sleep.  (The Teacher asks how I ever expect to be spiritually "awake" if I choose to be a "bed potato.")  :o)  Good question.  No sensible answer.  I stand mildly chastised and corrected.

When I was taking a shower, I thought of how no compelling ideas had come to me in a few days;  I received this: "One has to create a 'space' if one wants to be filled with ideas; for fulfillment to come."

What was so important today?  In my usual writing time, I played with my granddaughter, Brianna, while her mommy played with my computer.  Indeed a "pearl of great price"; a treasure not to be missed.

Then, I went to the Post Office before school traffic got heavy.  Many bills.  Ah - thank you, God,  for the wonderful opportunity of enjoying electricity (air condition) and water - at home and at the church.  (And all of the good things that produced the other bills.)  :o)

How blessed is a plain, ordinary day when nothing unusual happens.  I think of the times that I have spent at bedsides - in hospitals - with those choosing to "slip the bonds of earth," and their families.

I think of those times when bills could not be paid, and the harassment which occurred.  Yes, quiet, peaceful times are blessed.

And the spice of a baby's smile is remarkably sweet.
